The Sinervo et al. model integrates lizard thermophysiology and in situ operative temperatures (T e) to elucidate the interrelationships between ambient temperature and population distribution. This model relies on the premise that ambient temperatures constrain the amount of time that lizards may be active outside of their retreats (during which time lizards complete life activities such as
neighborhoods and different years (Sinervo et al. 2000; Svensson and Sinervo 2000). We used this long-term data set, consisting of more than 2,700 individually marked female lizard hatchlings over a decade of study, to inves-tigate variation in survival and selection in relation to year and two spatial levels: outcrop groups and neighborhoods.

Sinervo now seeks to determine which genes are responsible for this mating game. If the same genes are responsible for rock-paper-scissors in both lizard species, that would suggest the game is at
We document variation in the degree of arboreality among four populations of the western fence lizard (Sceloporus occidentalis), and investigate how this variation related to locomotor performance capability in an arboreal context (e.g., artificial branches). (Photo credit: David Dennis / Wikimedia) Barry Sinervo and two dozen coauthors in 2010 published a scientific paper that dismayed wildlife experts. A biologist at the University of California, Santa Cruz, Sinervo had developed a model for predicting local extinctions of lizard populations, based on how much global warming 2015-03-01 Barry Sinervo Simple Country Lizard Doctor at UC Santa Cruz.

Sinervo, a lizard ecologist by training, hadn’t thought much about extinctions until he spent a summer surveying European common lizards in the south of France in 2003. That August, a deadly heat wave swept Europe, killing more than 30,000 people.
